Beyond Bridges: Israel-Palestine (BBIP)

History

In partnership with the Center for Global Education at the University of San Francisco, the Center for Transformative Education’s BBIP program was launched in summer 2010 with a pilot group of eight participants from three American schools: Swarthmore College, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of San Francisco. We ran similar programs in summers 2011 and 2012, with 16 students in each group. All three of these iterations ran for three-weeks, engaging participants in both the dominant Jewish Israeli and Palestinian narratives while simultaneously giving participants the opportunity to meet with individuals and organizations working to end, and even transform, this decades-old conflict.

Between 2008-12, CTE focused exclusively on two conflict transformation programs: a facilitation training course offered at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and the University of San Francisco (USF) and a comparative conflict analysis and transformation course run through USF called Beyond Bridges: Israel-Palestine BBIP).
